TDK Launches HVC50: Advanced High-Voltage DC Contactor for Sustainable Energy Infrastructure
TDK Corporation has introduced the HVC50, a cutting-edge high-voltage DC contactor designed to safely manage connections and disconnections in lithium-ion battery systems operating at up to 1,500 V. Targeting applications in electric vehicle (EV) traction systems, energy storage solutions (ESS), and megawatt charging infrastructure (MCS), the HVC50 aims to drive the global transition to electrification while supporting carbon reduction initiatives.
Engineered for rapid response, the HVC50 can interrupt DC currents of up to 1,000 A at 1,500 V within 30 milliseconds during fault conditions, while sustaining continuous operation at 750 A. Weighing just 1.7 kg and featuring a compact footprint of 97.8 x 140 x 94.2 mm, the contactor combines durability with space efficiency, making it ideal for heavy-duty industrial and commercial EV environments. Its gas-insulated ceramic arc chamber ensures reliable performance under extreme conditions, while a built-in mirror contact system—compliant with IEC 60947-4-1—provides precise switching feedback for enhanced operational safety. The bidirectional current capability further broadens its adaptability across diverse power architectures.
A dual-coil design allows compatibility with 12 V or 24 V control systems, optimizing energy efficiency by reducing steady-state power consumption to 6 W after an initial 50 W activation burst. The HVC50 also meets stringent international certifications (CE, UKCA, UL), streamlining its integration into global markets. By addressing critical demands for high-performance power management in ESS and MCS networks, TDK’s HVC50 positions itself as a cornerstone technology for scalable, eco-friendly energy solutions worldwide.
